Maja went to the Vet!

So this was the first vet visit since all the puppies have left the nest. I was not there for it but I got a first hand account of what happened. They apparently took her back to draw blood and she had a minor freak out. Just a small note on Maja if she is not with her owner (My roommate) then she is with me she is never alone or with strangers, she is ALWAYS with someone she knows. My roommate apparently warned them that she was strong but they did not take his words to heart and got to find out for themselves how strong she is (just an FYI she is insanely strong). She got four shots and blood drawn and seems to be doing very well after that. No vomiting she is eating well seems a little tired but not overly so, and thoroughly traumatized of the vet wants nothing to do with the vet. So I would say the vet did his job well.

Bye Bye Coco

Sorry I have not posted in a while to be honest getting out of bed was even a challenge one that some days I didnt rise to meet. Coco is gone and with that all the puppies are gone and I am super sad. Now I know for sure I could never be a dog breeder because watching that last puppy go was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Especially knowing if the circumstances had been different she could have been my puppy. I have comfort knowing she went to a really good home where everyone loves her and can keep her for a very long time. It was really hard to see her go even now I am crying thinking about her. When the time is right I will get a dog of my own and I will be happy to have her and take care of her. For now I have Monster and pictures (and of course the terror that is Maja).

Goodbye Lima Bean!

Lima Bean went to his new home on Sunday before Christmas! He will be living with a single dad and his son. I think they will have a a wonderful life the three of them I dont think the cats of that household are to thrilled though!

While Coco for the time being will continue to stay with us as we look for a home. She is progressing well on her potty training only having one or two accidents a day and her crate training is going as expected with a lot of sleepless nights due to howling. She even made it up the front steps of our apartment all on her own today which is a huge step because before she was terrified of the steps! Now we have to work on getting her to ask us to be taken out when she needs to go but right now I would be happy with getting her to sit!

Slight problem...

So I might have Coco bean a bit longer than anticaped because she is proving to be a difficult girl to find a home for! So I started teaching her basic commands sit, lay down and so forth. The thing however that I did not see being a problem that now is, is the fact that Coco bean will not walk on the leash by herself she needs her brother (Lima bean or runt runt) to walk with her otherwise she plops herself down and does not move and inch, and anytime she is forced to move she howls her little heart out. I honestly dont know what I am going to do with Coco when its just the two of us on our walks. How are you suppose to potty train a puppy who wont walk?! If any of you have advice please let me know!

Goodbye Vanilla and Pinto!

So over the weekend to of our puppies went to their furever home. First to go on Saturday was Pinto. His owner came and signed the paper work and got her puppy. This was the owner of the stud that got Maja pregnant so this puppy was going to live with his daddy. I wish them both all the best. Then Vanilla went on Sunday to one of the fellow fighters in mine and my roommates armored wrestling group. She will have a wonderful life in a house full of kids and two other dogs. I think she found the best home possible and will never be lonely. That leaves Coco Bean and Lima Bean. Lima Bean has a few prospects of homes and with Coco Bean the search continues though we have a few people lined up. We are excited for our puppies and their future lives in new homes!

Sleepless Nights.

The puppies went through sleep regression as of recently. They have gone from sleeping through the night and waking up at 5 am to waking up every few hours and barking and howling for thirty minutes to an hour. Its been really hard on us but they get their shots on Friday then they can go home so we are excited for sleep again. We will miss them though this has been a very fun and interesting experience to go through. One of the homes for the puppies back out so now we are rehoming him to a new home and we are excited to interview possible homes.

Puppies 5 week update!

The beans turned five weeks on Saturday! They are eating so much mush now they only nurse three to four times a day which seems to be a huge relief for Maja and a huge stresser at the same time. She really want them to nurse so she can eat their mush but we noticed if we dont give them much mush or mush at all Maja will get in the whelping box and regurgitate some food that she has eaten for them and they seem to like this quite a bit I on the other hand am thoroughly disgusted by this but hey though she is taking care of her babies what more can we ask for!
They have started licking us and various other objects that we dont think they should be licking (Like the box) They are biting quite a bit as well they are really seeming to get the hang of being a dog meaning licking or biting everything!
They also seem to be following things now most hands if you put you hand in or near the box where they can see it they eagerly follow it and try to lick or bite.
They all have a full set of puppy teeth now that hurt quite a bit when they bite you with them!
Lastly they seem to be playing a lot more they started playing around the four week mark (I dont know if I said that in the update for four weeks). They will now rough house with each other to the point where one will yelp from getting bit to hard or they will puppy pile on one and we have to break it up so that no one is picked on to much. Coco seems to be quite the bully though so if they pile on her we call it her just dos and let it happen because she is such a meany.

Another Puppy update

So its been a while since the last puppy update with me being in the hospital and all. Ive got to tell you a lot has happened! They have nearly doubled in size and they have no problem walking now! They can see and track with their eyes and they come when you hand is making gestures. I guess it appealing the gestures or it get their prey drive going. They are now play fighting with each other I have youtube videos up of that. They are eating mush and enjoying it quite a bit. Maja is actively trying to escape them and is finding refuge from them in the crate in my room with monster joining her, and the puppies try to play every chance they get. They are now responding to sounds and actively listening and finally they are now escaping the whelping box or at least vanilla is! She was the first and so far the only puppy to escape the whelping box. Well that is the update on the puppy follow the blog for more puppy updates!

Maja and the crate

All my dogs have been crate trained. From my first dog, freckles the beagle to my poodle Sammy the rainbow dog, and Coco bean will be no exception she will be crate trained like all the others. Now her mother Maja was crate trained rather poorly but crate trained never the less. So when I bought a crate for Coco, Maja naturally assumed it was for her! I put a blanket in the crate and Maja walked right in and laid down happy as a bug in a rug. Its even funnier because I accidentally bought an over sized crate for Coco so Maja looks tiny in this huge crate. I am glad Maja is spending so much time in the crate because it will smell like her and hopefully help the transition to the crate for Coco!

Puppy eyes open!

The beans turned two weeks old on Saturday!
11/2/2018 Coco is the first puppy to open her eyes! I was checking on the puppys and I thought something was wrong with Coco because she was tossing her head from side to side so I picked her up and saw that her eyes where open and she was just looking at the big wide world! I cant quite tell what color her eyes are but they look brown or amber!

11/3/2018 Vanilla opened her eyes sometime in the night. It looks like she has blue eyes! 

Then Lima bean opened his eyes a few hours later and it looks like he has blue eyes too! 

Then at about 2pm today Pinto opened his eyes he was so squirmy that we had trouble getting a picture! 

Husky ears

Since Majas puppies are not a hundred percent husky (They are actually seventy five percent husky twenty five percent lab) I was beginning to wonder if they would have the floppy ears of their dad or the straight ears of their mom. So I did some research and apparently huskies ears don't become straight until between four to six weeks. So their still is a chance that the beans will look like huskies and not adorable puppy mutts! Anyways I know this post was boring so here are some cute puppy pictures.

Puppy Update

A LOT has happened over the weekend with the puppies. Friday night Coco decided to surprise and be the first of the puppies to open her eyes and see the big wide world around her. The other puppies followed her on Saturday in the order of Vanilla, Lima and then Pinto! All three of the white ones have blues eyes while Coco looks to have brown eyes but I cant be sure on Cocos eyes because she does not open them very wide. Then on Sunday Coco and Pinto started walking on very shaky legs but walking never the less. They all now seem to be walking with some trial and error they seem walking a few steps before falling. I must say the Jelly leg walk is very very cute. I will be posting a video on youtube before long.

Another Vet visit!

So since we had little faith in our old vet, since she was a week from birth and he could not tell she was pregnant, we had a visit with a new vet yesterday. At lovely VCA Oshtemo pet hospital and saw the wonderful vet named Amber. I could tell right away that this vet was loads better than our old one. From the minute we walked in they fawned over our animals and treated us like we where really welcome. Then we get into the room within a minute maybe less of arriving. A vet assistant come in and says she would like to see the puppies and proceeds to coo and fawn over the puppies with delight while not being neglectful of Maja. Where as Maja was always terrified of our old vet she seemed almost at easy by the end of the appointment. The puppies all weighed in at over two pounds and seem to be developing quite nicely. I will have a youtube video up when its edited.

Another thing that happened yesterday was Vanilla got to meet her future mom. She was so calm and happy in the woman's hands I know its going to be a great match they seem so well suited for each other!

Maja 42 lbs

Poor Kitty

I think the hardest adjustment of having puppies has been how Monster is trying to adjust. All her encounters with dogs other than Maja have been negative. She was terrified of Maja when I brought Maja home. It took me leaving for three and a half months and Maja being one of her only companions to get use to Maja. THEN BAM PUPPIES. I don't think the puppies would be so bad if it where not for the fact that Maja has turned aggressive on her. I understand mothers instinct and wanting to protect her puppies but I wish she would remember that Monster is her friend and not bite my cat. I am hoping that when the puppies go Maja will be a little more accepting of Monster. If anyone has any advice on helping Maja and Monster become friends again I would love to hear it I am so scared that Maja is going to kill Monster.

The Beans are a week old!

This Saturday the beans turned one week old! I am so proud of them they are big strong and healthy. They can almost stand and their crawl is starting to develop into more of a walk! They can also yawn which is super cute. I have yet to catch yawns on camera though!

First Vet visit!

So the beans had their first vet visit today! This being with the same vet who said that Maja was not pregnant! Anyways... The puppers all seem to be doing good all fat and healthy even the runt does not seem like a runt to the vet just the smallest of the litter still weighing at over half a pound without even being a week old! The did apparently comment on how skinny Maja was but like we have noticed she has been skinny ever since we got her! While she has put on weight since we have had her she has been hovering around 38 pounds. Thats why when we took her to the vet for a pregnancy test and she was 45 pounds we guessed we might have puppies on our hands and we guessed right but long story short Maja and the beans are happy and healthy!
Sorry I dont have more details I was at my own doctors appointment at the time I apparently sprained my shoulder OUCH!

Poor Mother Maja

Poor mother Maja she never gets a moment to herself her ever waking thought is consumed with her puppies but I suppose thats the way it is with all mothers! She will get out the box to stretch and scratch only to run back at ever little peep and squeak. All she wants is a break from the beans but even going outside has her wanting to come back in worried. Poor Maja.
On the other hand she has been holding it in so long trying to stay with the beans that she had a pretty large accident in the house luckily it was not on the carpet but rather on the vinyl where it was easy to clean up so good dog Maja!

Monster is getting more and more curious about the strange noises in the whelping box and that has increased Maja anxiousness ten fold! Funny thing is when I showed Monster a puppy she was absolutely terrified of the puppy hissed at it and ran. Nope puppies are not Monsters forte!

We have hesitantly settled on some temporary names for Maja and her beans!
Ladies first!

So the brown black and white one formally known as Cookie has been rechristened Coco Bean! And her sister laying right next to her is named Vanilla Bean!
Now on to the boys!

The bigger of the two boys is now known as Pinta Bean and the runt of the little is Lima Bean Ive managed to tell the two apart because Lima bean has a darker muzzle and little black spots on his paws!
